What personal data we collect and why we collect it?

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form as well as their IP address and user agent string in order to detect spam.

In order to determine if you are using Gravatar, the Gravatar service may ask for an anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash). In the context of your comment, your profile picture becomes visible to the public after your comment is approved.

Media

We recommend that you do not upload images that have embedded location data (EXIF GPS) to the website. Any location data from images on the website can be downloaded and extracted by website visitors.

Upon submitting a comment, you have the option of saving your name, e-mail address, and site in cookies. To make it easier for you to leave another comment, these are provided for your convenience. These cookies are good for one year.

When you log in to this site with a user account, a temporary cookie is set to determine whether your browser is accepting cookies. You will be able to delete this cookie when you close your browser.

In addition to cookies to store your log in information and your screen displays choices, we will set them up when you log in. Cookie duration for logins is two days, and cookie duration for screen options is one year. In case you select “Remember Me”, your login will remain in effect for two weeks. An additional cookie will be saved in your browser if you edit or publish an article. This cookie does not contain any personal information other than the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires in one day.

How long we retain your data?

Commentary and its metadata are saved indefinitely if you leave a comment. So that follow-up comments can be recognized and approved automatically, rather than being held in moderation queues.

We also store personal information in the profiles of users who register on our website (if any). User information can be viewed, edited, and deleted at any time (as long as their username cannot be changed). Administrators of the website can view and edit that information as well.

What rights you have over your data?

The personal data held about you, including any data you have provided to us, can be exported if you have an account on this site or have left comments. If you no longer want us to keep your data, you can also ask us to delete it. Any data we are required to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes is not included in this.  

Where we send your data?

  An automated spam detection service may be used to check visitor comments.
